Ashleigh N. Schieszer is the Conservator for the collaborative Preservation Lab. Ashleigh received an M.A. in Art Conservation and a Certificate in Advanced Studies from Buffalo State College in 2013, specializing in library and archival materials. Her senior research project included the conservation research, scientific analysis, and treatment of a 19th century album containing watercolor paintings on pith. She has library materials conservation experience at the Huntington Library in San Marino, California, the Leather Conservation Centre in Northampton, England, the Boston Athenaeum, and the University of Kansas Libraries. She has worked the Musical Instrument Museum in Scottsdale, Arizona treating ethnographic musical instruments from all over the world. She completed wallpaper conservation projects at the Truman Home in Independence, MO and The Metropolitan Hotel in Paducah, KY while working at Heugh-Edmondson Conservation Services in Kansas City, Missouri. In 2007 she co-presented in Chicago at The Midwest Regional Conservation Guild and Chicago Area Conservation Group joint meeting, “Sampling the Wallpapers of The Hotel Metropolitan, Paducah, KY: An Interface of Paper Archaeology and Conservation, and Historical Preservation.”
Holly Prochaska, MLIS, is Head of Preservation Services and Lab. Holly has worked at the University of Cincinnati Libraries since 1999 and has been the Preservation Librarian since 2006. Prior to heading Preservation, Holly coordinated University of Cincinnati Libraries’ renovation projects and facilities maintenance for the 10 library facilities. She has been an active member in the Ohio Preservation Council since 2007, and is currently the Chair-elect.
As facilities coordinator for 10 years Holly was the liaison for 4 complete renovations at UC Libraries – engineering library (CEAS Library), education library (CECH Library), College-Conservatory of Music Library, and Classics Library. Holly has also worked on dozens of smaller renovations including the installation of a large desiccant wheel dehumidification system, window replacements, carpet replacements with stack lifting, and roof replacements. Most recently, Holly co-coordinated the renovation of the Preservation Lab, a project that allowed UC Libraries and the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County to co-locate and establish the collaboratively managed, staffed, and equipped materials treatment lab.
